The Brit Awards are beloved for providing chaotic moments — that Madonna cape moment lives on in our minds forever — and this year has proved one for the history books.
Charli XCX’s winning streak with four awards was not a surprise, but Danny Dyer sitting next to a horse (yes, really) was a little more baffling.
Host Jack Whitehall made jokes about ketamine while viewers were unable to look away from the woman with a horse face — a German DJ known as HorsegiirL.
Viewers couldn’t stop talking about Jade’s first solo performance, Teddy Swims’ wild outfits, and a cheeky number from Sabrina Carpenter.
However, the night wasn’t all laughs as a special tribute to the late One Direction star, Liam Payne, reduced fans to tears.
With all the winners named and the after parties starting, here’s the Brit Awards 2025 as it happened.

The album won her album of the year as well as artist of the year, dance act (voted for by fans) and songwriter of the year.
Charli told fans not to ‘compromise their vision’ and even if it took longer to get there, ‘people would resonate’ evenutally.

‘Beautiful’ Liam Payne tribute reduces Brit Award viewers to tears
Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.
There has been huge speculation over the special tribute the Brit Awards would give for Liam Payne.
The One Direction singer tragically died aged 31, on October 16, 2024, after falling from a third-floor balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Fans were taken aback by the moving video, which showed pictures of Payne as a child and throughout his career.
Moments from One Direction’s success and Payne’s own words left everyone in floods of tears.
‘Not the Brit awards making me cry😭 We miss you Liam,’ shared Chloe on X as Jess added: ‘brit awards has broken my heart.’
‘Just seen Liam tribute to Brit awards heartbreaking cry my eyes out,’ said Lisa Hart.
Pumpkinspice wrote: ‘One of the best tributes I’ve seen for Liam, that was beautiful😭🤍 thankyou Brit awards 🥰.’

Charli XCX hits out at nipple censorship as she wins another award

After winner Sam Fender’s stunning performance, Jack Whitehall introduced the artist of the year category.
Accepting the award from Jared Leto, Charli XCX took aim at ITV for ‘complaining about [her] nipples’.
She added: ‘We’re in the era of free the nipple right?’
Addressing her award she shared: ‘This is really cool, artist of the year thank you so much, I feeel like i’ve always been an artist but it really takes a whole team and they’re all sat at that table.
‘Thank you so much to the people who helped me make this record’, Charli said with a nod to George Daniel: ‘Love you baby’.
‘This is for the artists who don’t feel like they fit in’ Charli concluded. ‘I share this with you, keep partying’.
Jack Whitehall silences Jade Thirlwall with awkward Phillip Schofield reference
Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.
For a second time tonight, host Jack referenced ITV’s ‘cancelled’ stars, leaving Jade Thirlwall slightly taken aback.
He had earlier joked: ‘ITV had so many of its presenters cancel this year they had to come crawling back to an ex.’
Later in the show, in a chat with Little Mix star Jade, he questioned whether the X Factor band would be reuniting after their ‘hiatus’, likening it to Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby’s TV split.
The former This Morning hosts were said to be ‘barely speaking’ before Schofield’s bombshell admission of an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a younger male employee, and his subsequent exit from all ITV projects.
Putting Jade on the spot, Jack probed: ‘The official line is that you’re currently on hiatus focusing on solo projects, when we say on a hiatus focusing on solo projects do we mean in a Phil and Kirstie way or a Phil and Holly way.’
Jade pulled an awkward face before comparing her possible reunion with Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock to Five, who recently announced their comeback.
‘So it could happen in the future,’ Jack replied. ‘That makes me so happy.’
International artist of the year goes to Chappell Roan!

With names like Sabrina Carpenter, Benson Boone, Beyonce, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar, and Taylor Swift in the running, this was a big catergory.
International artist of the year was anybody’s game but Chappell Roan took the win for her sensational rise to fame.
This was her second win of the night after Good Luck Babe won international song of the year too.
She dedicated the award to the trans community, sex workers, drag queens, and Sinead O’Connor.
Fans fume as ITV mutes Danny Dyer interview as HorsegiirL continues to baffle
Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.
Safe to say nobody could have predicted Danny Dyer and HorsegiirL being on the same table.
Presenter Jack Whitehall couldn’t help but get a reaction out of the German singer and DJ by saying she seems more of a ‘ketamine’ person.
He kept joking Danny had brought the DJ — who covers her identity with prosthetics to look like a horse — as his date
@deadiite shared on Twitter/X: ‘Whoever sat danny dyer next to horsegiirl needs an award themselves.’
Fans were a little annoyed as Jack and former EastEnders actor Danny’s conversation was muted for most of their interaction, with people begging for ITV to stop ‘bleeping’ everything.
@rachabeth tweeted: ‘What’s the point of bleeping everything out? It’s past watershed ffs!’
@michellepryde fumed: ‘If it’s post watershed why do they keep bleeping them out? It’s so annoying.’
@Ryansoapking23 added: ‘It’s literally past the 21.00pm watershed – what is the point of bleeping out of all of the swearing? It’s literally the best part of the #BRITs’

Jack Whitehall’s parents follow Kanye West and Bianca Censori in ‘stripping’ at Brit Awards
Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.
Jack Whitehall was left red-faced after his parents made a shock appearance at the Brit Awards.
TV producer Michael and actress Hilary were on the red carpet during Teddy Swims’ performance, with Jack joining them outside.
He wasn’t expecting them to turn up and follow in rapper Kanye and Bianca’s footsteps, after the controversial US couple left everyone shocked at the Grammys last month.
Bianca, 30, had arrived in a fluffy black coat and threw it to the floor to reveal her fully nude body, in a totally sheer dress. Meanwhile, Ye, 47, was fully dressed in a black T-shirt and trousers.
Jokingly taking a leaf from their book, Hilary told Jack: ‘It worked for Kanye and his wife.’
‘Yeah, maybe Yeezy can pull that look off, but if he wears sunglasses indoors, he just looks blind,’ Jack pointed to his baffled father.
As he attempted to move onto the next segment, his mum then threatened to whip off her coat, just like Bianca had.
‘It’s too hot,’ she said, while Jack shuddered and warned: ‘Don’t you dare, Hilary!’
‘I’m never going to eat turkey again,’ he added, while Hilary quipped: ‘It’s nothing you’ve not seen before, Jack!’

Sorry, this video isn’t available any more.
Paloma Faith was her usual defiant self as she stepped on stage to present the award for Dance Act, with Charli XCX taking home the win.
In a dig at the US, she said: ‘Some people are getting it wrong, thank you to the voters of America, and some people are getting it absolutely right and that’s Charli XCX’.
This was Charli’s second win of the night, and she used the moment to dedicate the award to the dance and electronic artists who inspired her.
‘I wouldn’t be up here without these three straight, white men,’ Charli began.
She said she worries dance music ‘gets a bad rep’ for people thinking ‘it’s not that deep’.
‘I think it is, this genre of music is euphoric, it allows me to escape, allows me to feel on such a deep level,’ she went on.
Charli shouted out numerous dance artists but ended her speech with thanks to the late trans artist, Sophie, who died in 2021.
